I don't like having something tight around my neck.  I can, and often do wear things like con badges or a stone on a loop of cord around my neck because they hang down my front.  I'm not against the idea of collars, but I choose not to wear one because of that physical discomfort.

I love wearing a collar. It's a blue nylon collar. It's just an accessory. I'm not one for rings, nor piercings, but rather neck adornments, such as necklaces and collars. I've got no emotional attachment to it, but if i were to lose it I'd be sad, because I have an emotional attachment to the tag. The tag was a gift from my squadlings, who all know I'm a furry, at the end of marching band last year. On the tag is written my nickname that I earned my freshman year at bandcamp. And now because of the tag, most people on my dorm floor call me "sheriff."

The most frequent statement i get about my collar is, "My dog has the same collar."

Interesting topic.....

I wear a collar for the fashion look. I'm emo goth so.... yea...

But really..... when I really think about it... i want it to be a BDSM thing cause.... I really likes the entire concept of being collared.

I do have a collar, but it's mostly just fashon.  I'm not much into the BDSM thing.  It's always been a thing I like to look at and say  "Wow, this things been through alot."

Was at Michael's last night. They have chem-light collars and necklaces for a buck apiece. The sample glitter necklace I bought is orange and 22". Their display also had pendants and other glow items. Cool

I wore a pink sparkly studded collar in HS, not a furry thing, just a general punk-wannabe-thing. I think I got it from Claire's, SUPER HARDCORE, right? Tongue

I haven't worn a collar in many many years, and I don't foresee that changing really. Just not my thing. Plus my neck tends to get greasy and oily and stuff, and there is nothing grosser than an old grimy collar, gack.

Anyone else who wears a collar feel naked without it? Mine be in the wash currently, so I had to put on me other one. It be a bit large, as I saw fit to have spikey collar set for suiting. But at least now, I don't be feelin quite so naked.

back when I wore my collar everyday (and my carwash tail nearly 24/7... remember Eddi?) I used to feel all weird without it. Then I stopped one day and developed the opposite problem. I hate things touching my neck.

What to say about collars that hasn't already been said in the thread?

I have a collar, it's one in a long line of collars stretching back to middle school days (about 20 years ago now). I was wearing collars for one reason or another for a long time.

My first collar was a gift from a my first girl friend who got one for me because I was her "puppy dog". It was nod to my nick name and not BDSM related. I wore that collar all the time, every day and every where I went until we broke up and I suddenly didn't care for it so much however I just replaced it with a new one after that.

I wear my collar now days for two reasons, the main one being that at this point it's more like a piece of jewelry then a statement about anything. I've been wearing collars a long time now so not wearing one makes my neck feel naked and the constriction that some people don't like I actually have grown to find comforting. The second reason I wear my collar is that it does on rare occasions cause people to ask question and present me with an opportunity to discuss the fandom. I can understand how this is the kind of attention that makes some people uncomfortable but I enjoy it.

I buy most of my collars at pet stores like Petco. I like collars with a quick release so that I can get it off fast in the event of a safety problem, however this has never been an issue to date. I prefer Nylon or other synthetic materials for easy cleaning and I find it keeps the smell down during the hot sweaty days of summer.

One of the things I like to do is wear a nice button down shirt with my collar in place of a tie. If I keep the tags nice and polished it actually looks pretty nice. This is the kind of thing that you would have to be comfortable having some neck constriction to do.

I'll wrap up my collar rundown with a few tips/preferences relating to collars.
I like to buy my collars large enough that they have to be tightened down to fit as opposed to being smaller and opened up all the way to fit. This gives me a margin of safety and a way to open it up for comfort when needed.
To reiterate I like to go with synthetic materials as they are easier to clean and generally cheaper if you are going to be buying a number of them for different occasions or if your rough on them.
I like metal hardware as I can polish it up to look nice and it's more durable in the long run. The other up side to metal hardware is that if the collar breaks for some reason you can recycle the buckles and other bits  Wink

Well I hope this isn't too wordy, preachy or redundant.  Grin

What if you replaced one of the ends with one of these: http://www.chinatraderonline.com/Carabiner/mini-carabiner/Round-Carabiner-221621392.htm ?

Anyway, I've been wearing collars for quite a many year, even before I knew what furry was. I used to play games with my friends as a kid where we'd role play dogs and such. Kind of a way to suspend the game from ending, I guess.

I like to pick them out for mostly aesthetic purposes nowadays, but I honestly feel pretty nakkid without it D:

My suggestion for that would be to unlink 2 links with pliers in the middle of the collar somewhere. Close the detached links. Hook the choke end together in the normal chokey fashion. Then tie the 2 links together with thread that will be strong enough to hold up under normal use, but weak enough that if the collar is yanked or caught on something the thread will break so you won't get neck injuries. Or small magnets you can glue to the links. That would make taking it on and off much easier.
I've never tried this, mind you, but I think it would work.

I always liked the 'weight' of it around my neck, to reply to O.P. as to the appeal, theirs also the mild submissive/feral aspect to it as well but I'll rarely rarely wear them in public, esp. as I've gotten older.

The best one I ever had was a nice thick, solid, comfy psuedo leather one I got at miejers for like 14 bucks. Not the best, but for cost/vs amount of use/location.

I'd suggest Noir Leather in Royal Oak if you want a /really/ solid, well built one with quality, comfy materials. They order, and custom make bondage/fetish gear to your desire. A few years back a friend had two ultra heavy looking but very comfy on the inset cuffs and matching collar, think it ran him about 120.oo all together.

Personally I don't like the overly large/buckled/spiked/studded ones, I greatly prefer the aethestic and feel of a simple, unadorned collar to a showpiece, but that is my taste and not saying others can't wear them  Tongue

swish swish swish. now apply that to a tail / the speed of a carwash piston/cleaning style. =)
