Tonight, while using the chat, I noticed at times, right in the middle of typing out a message, my cursor would jump to/from the main chat window, to a private message sub-window. The old typed text remained in the previous spot, but suddenly I found myself typing into the wrong line. Talking to others, at least one other person there noted the same thing.

I've not been able to replicate this bug. Please let me know when/if it happens again with a time and date so that I may check the chat logs.

I THINK I may have isolated what causes it; it happened again tonight, and it was at pricely the exact time someone entered the room while I was typing... The cursor went from the main "room line" to an entry line in a private message.

edit: it's happened three times to me this evening, all with the exact same situation. Not sure if it's reversible in the same manner. (i.e, switching from PM to public when someone enters)

What browser, browser version, and operating system are you using. I used the test environment that I have to simulate what you described in Windows 7 with Firefox 3.5.7 and IE 8 and I was unable to make it do that.

This is with FireFox 3.5.5, running in Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 3.

I've managed to duplicate the problem. It seems to only occur when starting a sentence with a slash character. Since the site is supposed to interpret those as IRC commands it will error out and look like it posts to the main window. In actuality the post is only visible to the person receiving the error.

Actually, you've just replicated a DIFFERENT error... One, I think, that everybody has already personally worked around, and hence never thinks to report.

The error I referred to occurred regardless of what was typed in the field, and happened BEFORE you could hit "enter." It seems there might be another variable in place that only causes it to happen on some nights, (perhaps related to user count or activity?) so that could be hard to track down. But excepting that, the exact process I could use to replicated it myself would look like this:

• Open at least one private chat with another user.
• Begin typing a message to the general chat. Contents (AFAIK) does not matter, though in all cases this happened, it did NOT begin with a /.
• Have someone else enter the chat room in general, from not being in chat at all.
• My experience is on some nights, this will cause your typing cursor to jump to the private message; i.e, if this happened in the middle of you typing, you'd wind up with half your message in the "entered text" box for general chat, and the remainder in the entered text box for the private message.

I apologize if I wasn't clear.

I attempted to replicate the error using the exact criteria specified in your last post in my load testing environment and I did not experience the error. Have you seen this happen on more then one computer? I've not had anyone else report this behavior to me and since I can't seem to replicate it on my end with the criteria you have stated I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with the software configuration on your computer.

At any rate if you have experienced the problem on multiple computers or if more users report the issue I will look into it further. At the present time since I have been unable to replicate the problem using your criteria I am halting further testing.

i have had this happen,  i use firefox, i will be in chat, a private message pops up, and whatever i type after that is in the private message.  i did not think it was a glitch,  more of like a "your attention has been moved without your permission to this new box" thing.   it is annoying somewhat.  i just erase what is in the pm and re-click on the main chat to finish my sentence.   as for what can be done.  not sure.  it seemed to be built into the system.  perhaps something with the operating system causes the cursor to jump to the last selected box,  and this pm box may be automatically selected as main when initiated so the typing is transferred to it.  i don't really think it is that bad an issue.  but if we need perfection with the chat system then i guess go ahead and knock your head against it some more.

firefox  and other programs vary from I Tunes, GIMP, daemon tools, yahoo messenger, msn messenger, and Steam.

Oh! Yeah, it changing focus to the PM from the main chat room is intended functionality. I think ACGIFT was describing a different scenario, or at least I was interpenetrating it as something different.

Well, what I describe COULD be a glitch with the same feature; basically, it's the exact reverse. Someone entering the public chat room re-focuses attention back on the main chat room from the PM, which I think is perhaps an unintended side-effect. (since not EVERYONE immediately wants to jump in and say "hi" to every single new person in the room... Especially if they just left and re-entered to cure their 'lines disease'. )
